We hiked up to the summit of Mauna Kea (13,000+ feet above sea level, but 30,000+ feet from its base, making it taller than Everest from base to peak). Well, summiting was pretty easy -- we drove almost all of it (including a stretch of steep dirt road) and walked the last 5-10 minutes! There are several astronomical observatories here because the weather is generally quite clear (most of the clouds and rain happen below). (Big Island)
