A view of Waipi'o Valley in the north of the Big Island. The valley was inhabited until tsunamis in the mid-20th century forced almost everyone out. Now it's accessible only by 4WD or by hiking down the 25 grade (45 degree angle) road to the valley. We camped there one night not knowing it's not allowed without special permits.
